Cymatics: Laser-Cut Record
The origin of this experimental project was a collaboration between myself and another designer. We kept exchanging work back and forth and creating new pieces based upon what we received. What I discovered after a few weeks was that we were beginning to force connections and 'create something out of nothing.' I ran with this idea and arrived at a record which creates sound due to the lack of material in the path of the needle. I laser etched groves into the surface of a piece of clear acrylic that, when placed on a record player, would play the 1964 piece "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel.
