CYMATICS: Laser-Cut Record
Sometimes art can be found when the artist must create something out of nothing—finding art around their initial concepts versus about them. In a similar way, a record creates sound where there is a lack of material in the path of the needle.
The process began by converting a .mp3 file to a visualization of the sound wave as one, continuous line. This was then run through an algorithm that wrapped that path around a spiral which could be uploaded to a laser cutter set to engrave a sheet of acrylic.
